Two people were killed, and 10 others suffered injuries in a collision between an Omni bus and a lorry near Paalpannai on the Trichy-Chennai highway on Monday night. The bus was travelling from Chennai to Kambam in Theni district.
The Omni bus, carrying 34 passengers, collided with a truck loaded with bricks from the rear, resulting in the immediate deaths of the bus driver and an elderly woman.
Passersby and rescue teams managed to rescue 10 passengers, who were then shifted to Trichy Government Hospital for medical treatment.
Police have launched an investigation and are searching for the lorry driver, who fled the scene of the accident.
Further investigation into the incident are ongoing.
